Goodbye summer, hello autumn!

There is no better time to clean up the garden than now. As the weather starts to cool down, make sure you give your yard what it needs to make it through the cooler months ahead. Here are three tips to get your yard ready for autumn.

Food for thought

You may enjoy the heat of summer, but just like us, your garden needs some recovery time after a day in the sun.

Introducing a slow release fertiliser in autumn gives your lawn the essential nutrients it needs to recover and repair from the intensity of the summer heat. A slow release fertiliser will gradually release nutrients into the soil over several weeks, keeping your lawn and plants fed for the whole season. Plus, fertiliser will encourage growth and keep your lawn greener for longer during the cool months.

Weed the way

While your grass growth slows down, weeds are tough enough to continue growing strong even in the cool months. Getting on top of your weeds in autumn will prevent over growth come winter.

Soak up the sun

As the days get shorter, it's important to help your lawn and garden get as much sunlight as possible. Regularly pruning your trees, bushes and shrubs will allow more sunlight to reach your lawn. Rake your yard regularly as well, removing debris and leaves willl open up your yard to absorb every drop of sunlight it can. Lastly, don't forget to mow. Even though the growth of your grass will slow, remember to mow your lawn regularly with a raised cutting height. Longer blades of grass absorb sunlight and nutrients best, plus the long strands block out weeds and keep your grass greener for longer.
